UNleashed Preview

UNleashed is going to be a little different this week. If you were at service this past Sunday or listened to the podcast, you know that our church has been called to dedicate this week to prayer, so we’re responding by dropping everything and dropping to our knees to corporately seek God’s face.

We all hear those stories of miracles happening when someone prays. People who are on their deathbed puzzle doctors by recovering overnight when last rites had been given and there was supposedly no hope. The family struggling to make ends meet prays and finds a check from a complete stranger in their mailbox for exactly the amount they need. The car running on empty in the middle of nowhere makes it another 80 miles to the nearest gas station.

The stories I’ve listed above have actually happened to people I know. The gas tank story happened to my dad and me while we were driving through the desert in Eastern Oregon in 2002. Although they defy science and logic, these stories are true, and I can say confidently to you that when you pray, God listens. He hears the cries of those who need help, and pours out mercy on those who ask in His Name.

Hebrews 4:14-16 says this: “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Who better to have on your side when making a request than Jesus the Messiah? He lived a real, human life, complete with suffering and temptation to sin. Let’s draw ourselves to Him as a Church; the Bride He loves so dearly. When He answers, let’s be sure to thank Him and to tell of His wonderful works as we studied last week in Psalm 105. Till then, pray without ceasing.

See you on Thursday,
-Johanna
