UNdone: Prayer

It’s been an amazing week of prayer and worship. The Holy Spirit is truly having His way with our church as people continue to give their life to the Lord, grow closer to Jesus and see the glory of God being displayed. We pray that as a church we would not take this for granted but continue the work of God as we mature as Christians, and develop a genuine relationship with God.

This week we will continue to step outside of the box and allow God to move freely in our lives and in our prayers.

For most people prayer is viewed as a wish list. The more I talk to people the more I see it. However, I don’t think people really get what it’s all about. Prayer is a conversation with God, and like any conversation it requires not only speaking but listening.

Unfortunately, most of us choose to use that time to simply tell God all the things we want from the Lord, as if Jesus were Santa Claus or some magic Genie. Some of us don’t even go so far as to say “God I want or Lord I need or Jesus please help me achieve this or that.” We just simply have hopes and dreams, never truly acknowledging God but just assume that we have prayed because we desire these things. Therefore, God has heard our prayer. That’s not prayer.

Don’t get me wrong, the Lord knows your inner most thoughts and can see your hearts desire but stopping to pray and talk to Jesus is an act and demonstration of your faith in God. In doing so you’re showing God that you trust and love the Lord. If you don’t believe me just look at the relationships you have with the people you love. When they take the time out to share with you these desires that you already know about, or when they trust in you seeking counsel and advice, how does that make you feel? Does that not demonstrate to you their faith in you and their love for you?

More importantly, let us not take for granted how great is our God. Every person has been given the opportunity by the power of the Holy Spirit to sit down and have a conversation with God. Why waste that opportunity by asking God to make us successful, or to have better things? We can achieve those things on our own by simply working hard, getting a vision for it, putting our mind to it and challenging ourselves. Don’t believe me look at the Godless world around us. Clearly, you don’t need Jesus to achieve success by the world’s standards.

Why not take that opportunity to develop a real relationship with Jesus. Let’s show the Lord how grateful we are by stopping and telling Him. Greater than that, lets ask God to reveal Himself to us. Let’s open up are hearts, our minds, and our ears to hear the voice of God. Come down this Monday at 7pm and witness the power of the Holy Spirit as we become UNdone before the Lord.
